Apple’s iPhone 17 event is set for September 9, 2025, and two of the most anticipated products being unveiled are the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Here is everything new that’s rumored to be coming.
iPhone 17 New design and colors
The buzziest new iPhone design this year will most likely be the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air model. But Apple has some design changes coming to its iPhone 17 Pro line too.
- Camera bar: The standard camera bump is expanding to a full-width camera bar design.
- Aluminum replaces titanium: Titanium is out, replaced by aluminum for as-yet-unknown reasons.
- More colorful Pro colors: Orange, Dark Blue, Black, Silver—breaking the cycle of boring Pro colors.
iPhone 17 Upgraded performance
It’s normal for each new iPhone to get more powerful, but Apple Intelligence and a focus on Pro camera upgrades seems could be motivating even greater performance gains this year.
- A19 Pro chip: Latest generation A-series chip for improved CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine.
- 12GB RAM: Up 50% from the 8GB that’s been available for the past two years.
- Improved cooling systems: Vapor chambers should enable more consistent performance without throttling.
iPhone 17 Camera improvements
While Apple’s new iPhone 17 Air model scales cameras back significantly, the iPhone 17 Pro models will offer several camera improvements.
- 24MP front facing camera: Up from the 12MP sensor that’s been used for years.
- 48MP telephoto camera: Up from 12MP, and making all three rear cameras now 48MP.
- 8x optical zoom with iPhone 17 Pro Max: Apple’s Pro Max might get an exclusive telephoto upgrade, despite both models going 48MP.

- Anti-reflective, more scratch resistant display: Similar to nano-texture’s benefits, but likely a different technology.
- Larger battery in iPhone 17 Pro Max: Thicker enclosure this year to house an even bigger battery.
- Reverse wireless charging: Might enable charging other Apple devices on your iPhone 17 Pro.
